1. What attracted you to our church community? What are you looking for in a church?
About age 20, I first learned of UUs while scanning a book about all religions -- getting to the end, where UU was described. Having been raised Southern Baptist I had kept my strong natural skepticism, along with a new urge to discover some sensible religion -- to best fit my sense of spirituality. Thus, wherever I lived or travelled, I’d happily visit the local UUs -- although never joining, due to my problem with commitment. I am better finally, now in my 60s -- so I recently joined MVUU in northwest Tucson, where I lived nearby. And, now I’m glad to join UUCT, too -- since I’ve relocated nearby, in east Tucson.
2. What gift do you bring to our community life?
My purpose in Life -- is to help our youngest citizens learn to boldly claim self-ownership of “what and how they choose to learn”, within their classrooms -- as the best path and preparation for real freedom in their future lives. Within UUCT, I’m eager to discuss the role of freedom within schools -- as a vital aspect of social justice.
3. What is one hope that you have for our congregation?
I hope UUCT can welcome and offer such discussions -- to explore progress for a new birth of freedom within our schools and classrooms, for our young citizens.
